Elastic Compute

Having enough servers to meet peak requirements means that during the quiet times, you’re spending more money than you need to. We can give you processing power as you need it.

If you know you need to be taking advantage of the rise of cloud computing, but you’re not sure how to go about it, we can help you figure out where you can save money, map out a plan and help you get there.

Whether you’re in the first stages of formulating a cloud strategy, or you’re already on the way, we can help develop and refine your strategy, maximising cost reduction and ensuring a smooth transition. Because we’re not tied to any vendors or technologies, we can give you honest advice about the best path to take.

Initial Stages

It’s only possible to plan out a cloud strategy once you’ve established what IT services you’re currently running and which of those could be moved to the cloud. We can help you take an inventory of your current IT environment and establish where you can save money and increase reliability using cloud services. This forms the backbone of your cloud business case.

Planning

Cloud migrations are all about planning. Once a business case has been established, a plan is made for each service you’ve decided to migrate to the cloud. This plan includes a phased approach to migration, ensuring that each service is prepared, migrated and tested in a way that minimises the impact to your day-to-day operations.

Vendor Selection

There are lots of cloud providers out there, each offering their own suite of solutions for all kinds of IT needs. Just because you use one vendor for Elastic Compute doesn’t mean they’ll also be the best host for your email service. Because we’re not tied to any particular vendors, we can help you find the best providers for each of the services you’re migrating.

Migration Strategy and Timeline

Once we’ve identified the services to be migrated and the vendors to be used, we can begin developing a migration strategy. The strategy details:
  • What needs to be done before each service can be migrated
  • What gets done when during the migration
  • A test plan to ensure that services have migrated properly
  • A plan to restore the service to its original state if the migration is delayed
The timeline brings together the plans for each of the services and ensures that the migration is performed in the order which makes the most sense. This gives you a schedule to assist in budgeting and planning and means that there will be minimal impact on your business during the migration.

Deployment

Deployments can be handled many ways:
  • Planning only: We can hand over a set of reports detailing the services, vendors and migration plans to be executed by your IT department or contractors.
  • Managed process: We can help manage your IT department or contracts as they execute the migrations.
  • Full migration: We can execute the migrations, testing and handover.

By hosting collaboration and email services in the cloud, you can maintain control of your environment and reduce the load on your IT department.

Email

Exchange Online is more than just an Exchange server in the cloud. Because Microsoft store your email, it’s accessible from anywhere – including your phone or tablet. If your laptop needs to be replaced, just log in to your Exchange Online account on the new laptop, and it’s all there. No more need to migrate mail files, no chance of losing that important email you had backed up, it’s just all there. If you’re overseas without your laptop or phone and you get an urgent call from the office, you can log in to the Exchange Online web portal from anywhere.

Collaboration

Collaboration includes a few areas: file sharing, collaborative editing and communication. Moving from a ‘shared drive’ approach to document editing to a collaborative editing environment reduces the risk that people will copy files to their local hard drives and end up causing headaches. It also allows more than one person to actively edit a document. When you combine this with the ability to talk to each other and share screens, you enable a collaborative working environment.

Identity, Document Security and Control

How many of the documents your employees have access to contain critical intellectual property? Do you want to protect your customer database? We can help you secure and control your documents.

Whether you’re looking at creating a new collaboration environment or migrating an existing one, we can help you find the best way to achieve your goal.

Migrating Applications

Some organisations don’t want to be IT experts, but have applications or services they need to be running in order to do business. Just because there’s no ready-made cloud offering like Exchange Online for your application, doesn’t mean that you can’t get rid of those servers. By migrating an existing application to the cloud, you can reduce the strain on your IT department, help ensure availability and stop buying new hardware for the application to run on.

Migrating Environments

IT environments are sets of applications and services which interact with each other and allow the end user to get their work done. Even though they are complex, sometimes with many different applications interacting with each other, some can be migrated to the cloud. By reproducing or re-engineering your environment in the cloud, we can help reduce costs and improve the availability of your environment.

Having enough servers to meet peak requirements means that during the quiet times, you’re spending more money than you need to be. We can give you processing power as you need it.

Architecture

Whether you need to run workloads in the cloud or you want the peace of mind that you can offload extra work to the cloud when your servers are at capacity, we can help you find the right provider and create an architecture to support your cloud workloads.

Orchestration

Being able to commission a virtual environment quickly and easily is a big step. Being able to commission the right virtual environment at the right time is another matter entirely. We can help you set up a system around your Elastic Compute use which ensures that virtual environments are launched when they’re needed and are ready to use within minutes, not days. Limits can be set to ensure that spend stays within expected ranges while optimising your organisation’s use of cloud compute.
